Barbados is one of the most popular locations for romantic destination weddings, and it's no wonder, thanks to its white sand beaches, all-year-round sunshine, and array of luxury venues. More brides and grooms are choosing the Caribbean island to exchange their vows, and there are plenty of choices when it comes to wedding locations and venues.

Pure white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, year round sunshine, and luxury hotels; it's not surprising that Barbados is a favourite location for tropical weddings.

The Caribbean island has become a hotspot for destination weddings, and as well as the picturesque landscapes, there are plenty of professional wedding planners and beautiful venues to choose from.

With 11 parishes on the island, there are an array of wedding locations that range from historic churches, upscale plantation homes, unique sugar mills, to clifftops and white sand beaches.

Couples can exchange vows at Sunbury Plantation, which dates back to 1660 and boasts historic interiors and spacious tropical gardens; Orchid World in Sweet Vale, with more than 20,000 orchids and elevated gardens overlooking sugar cane fields; the Flower Forest Botanical Gardens with views overlooking Chalky Mount and the coast; or they can get married in one of the oldest synagogues in the Western Hemisphere in Bridgetown.

Many of the island's luxury resorts also host destination weddings, with a choice of indoor or outdoor nuptials in scenic settings.

The House by Elegant Hotels offers a limited number of weddings abroad, and its coral stonewalls, white decor, and flaming torches at night, make it a beautiful setting for wedding celebrations.

Sandy Lane is the "crème-de-la-crème" of five-star resorts and couples will have the assistance of bespoke wedding and honeymoon planners. Butlers are on hand to draw a bath with chocolate truffles on the side for newlyweds, or cabanas on the beach with flaming torches just for two.

For something a little different, Tiami Catamaran Cruises has five catamarans that are available for private charter for weddings at sea, with live music, barbecues and special wedding menus.

Getting married in Barbados is relatively easy, and there's no waiting period of minimum length of stay. Marriage licence applications are made at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs and cost US$100 in cash and a US$12.50 stamp.

Barbados is an island nation situated in the North Atlantic Ocean that offers a wide range of diverse breathtaking tropical landscapes and a wide selection of luxury beachfront hotels. Holidaymakers can go scuba diving or snorkelling in crystal clear warm ocean waters where they can explore the colourful coral reefs and hundreds of vibrant marine creatures, or relax on pristine white sand, palm-fringed beaches and soak up the sunshine.
