Weddings in mauritius - Legal Requirements

Documents required by The Holiday Place 12 weeks prior to departure:

Proof of Identity: A copy of the Birth Certificates of the couple, a copy of the first 3 pages of each client’s passport and the last page. Actual profession of the Bride and Groom.

Adoption: If adopted, adoption certificate is required

Divorced: A copy of the original Decree Absolute stamped with the seal of the court where it was issued.

If the bride has been divorced less than 10 months before the wedding then a locally obtained medical certificate stating she is not pregnant must be presented.

Widow(er): A copy of marriage & death certificate of husband or wife is required.

Name change: Deed Poll under which change has been done. Relevant documents in case of a change of name.

Residency: Minimum 3 days before the wedding, the bride and groom have to produce the necessary original documents to the Civil Status Office situated in Port Louis before going to the Supreme Court to swear an affidavit. Once this has been done, they will go to the Civil Status Office of the relevant locality for the publication of the bans.

Civil Formalities include:

Mauritius Legal Requirements: The Mauritius Wedding Coordinator will accompany the couple to fulfill the above formalities. The required documents to be married in Mauritius are given above and each person must provide a duplicate copy of each of these.
